London jewelry provocateur Kali Arulpragasam debuts a new collection that’s as thoughtful as it is striking.
With a title like “Murder”, there’s no surprise that the new jewelry collection from Super Fertile, the label run by artist (and M.I.A. little sis!) Kali Arulpragasam, is a shocker. Featuring striking, abstract pieces meant to evoke knife slashes, gunshot wounds, and machine-gun spray, “Murder” is a visual commentary on widespread global violence and war. The pieces, however, are double-edged; look closer at the grisly neckpieces, cocktail rings, body chains, and head jewelry, and you’ll see exquisite craftsmanship as well as high-quality metal and stones: sapphires, rubies, and garnets. Beautiful, gruesome, or a bit of both? Whatever your take, you have to admit that rarely is jewelry so thought-provoking.
