Sweatshirt Chic

Gap shows us how to up-style the classic sweat.

If you thought terry and fleece were fabrics solely for lounging at home and sweating it out at the gym, think again! Gap’s new range of sweatshirt-style clothing brings all the comfort of a traditional sweat to the everyday ensemble.

Paired with some of the brand’s other pieces for fall, these former lazy afternoon styles are transformed into comfortable must-haves for girls on the go.

While most of us have our fair share of sweats already, Gap’s collection is carefully tailored with trendy silhouettes. Here’s a look at the new range and how to style them.

Sweatshirt Chic

The Peacoat ($98)
This soft double-breasted peacoat is made from sueded French terry. Unlike traditional peacoats, the French Terry Peacoat is machine washable, perfect for practical girls who like the convenience of laundering at home.

Gap styles this peacoat with rolled faded denims and a striped knit, but this versatile coat will soften any daytime ensemble that needs a little coverup.

The Sweatpant ($39.95)
Unlike your average baggy sweats, this Slim Fleece Sweatpant features a tapered leg and ankle skimming cuff. Angled patch pockets give the pants some edge while a simple black drawstring waist harks back to the original.

Tapered pants are popularly paired with simple heels and this sweatpant follows suit. The tapered leg and simple hue ensures focus goes straight down to beautiful shoes. Gap styles this pair with a casual denim blazer and tee but for a more formal look it can worn with a button down blouse or crisp tailored shirt.

The Pullover ($39.95)
The speckled pattern and easy fit of the 3/4 sleeve Nubby Terry Raglan Pullover are reminiscent of traditional sweatshirt material, but the contemporary scoop neck with shirred detailing make it a casual alternative to a shirt or blouse.

Gap keeps the pullover casual with a pair of pastel skinnies and extra-length cardigan, but it can be easily up-styled for the office with a knee-length tweed pencil skirt and matching cropped jacket.

The Dress ($49.95)
The sleeves, neck and fit of the French Terry Dress are all reminiscent of your average tee, but the knee-length hem, banded waist and angled pockets turn it into a feminine shift.

Gap gives this simple dress some edge with an unbuttoned rolled-sleeve jacket, leather belt and tights. A more feminine fall look can be achieved with an extra-length cardigan belted at the waist or secured with a brooch. Opaque tights and heeled boots complete the look.
