Royal Ruby: Sarah Ferguson

The world was entranced for the second time by the late Princess Diana’s dazzling sapphire and diamond ring, when it resurfaced on Kate Middleton’s finger in 2010, but in 1986 all eyes were on a different engagement ring – Sarah Ferguson’s radical ruby.

Similar in style to the sapphire and diamond engagement ring created by Garrard, Fergie’s ruby engagement ring, sent royalist nearlyweds into a copycat frenzy, increasing the demand for ruby engagement rings shortly after Prince Andrew proposed to the vivacious socialite.

While a sapphire blue may have suited the conservative style of Diana and Kate, it’s interesting to note that Prince Andrew chose the unusual color because it matched the Duchess of York’s famous fiery red hair.

While the royal knot was eventually untied, Fergie’s ring still remains a bold choice for passionate brides-to-be. Taking inspiration from Prince Andrew’s specially designed creation, we’ve rounded up a few Jewlr lookalikes which you too can customize to channel the “other” princess’s spectacular sparkle.

In keeping with Fergie’s own wedding bling, we’ve customized the “Royal” Bezel Set Oval Cluster Ring and Starburst Ring above with yellow gold metal, ruby feature stones and diamond surrounds.

You can personalize and purchase the rings above, as well as Jewlr’s entire range of engagement rings, at
