Pastel Perfect: muted hues for Spring 2012

If the runways of Louis Vuitton, Prada and Ralph Lauren are anything to go by, it’s looks like Spring 2012 will be all washed out – in a good way.

Pastel Perfect: muted hues for Spring 2012

Pack away your vibrant hues and robust florals, the upcoming season’s trend is full of soft tones, pastel color blocking and gentle damasks.

Spearmint, lemon, apricot, rose and even icy blue were spotted on the runways of all the big names, including delightful pastel color blocking by Phillip Lim, Jonathan Saunders and Louis Vuitton.

Take inspiration from ice cream, macaroons and sweetheart candies when working this trend into your closet. I recommend buying two items in each shade so that mixing and matching is made easy resulting in multiple ensembles. Add your existing nude, cream and white items to create even more outfits with your new purchases.

Also keep in mind pastel shades were not alone on the runway. In addition to soft candy-like colors, black made a sneak appearance in the form of zippers, belts, handbags and shoe straps. While black is rarely in the role of the subtle accent, I can’t say I’ve ever been more impressed by it. Not only did it ground the candy-colored ensembles, but also it gave potentially overly feminine looks that polished edge.

Finish your own new pastel spring look with a black skinny belt, leather clutch or pair of sunglasses from last season. Now you’re ready for spring!
