Whether you’re in Toronto with Alexandra, or in Manhattan with me, we have virtually no justifiable reason to celebrate Bastille day, the French independence day. That’s not going to stop us though. No. Instead, we’ll dedicate an entire blog post to Quatorze Juillet (July 14th.) After all, who doesn’t love a little French flair to their otherwise domestic day. Vive la France!
No matter where you are, it’s utterly important that you wear a beret and striped shirt. Since the summer days have had no mercy on our sweating souls, we suggest this light weight red and white striped crop top from American Apparel.
Pair it with an adorable unique beret like this one from Lori’s Shoes, and voila! You’re a regular Parisian.
Now that you’re dressed, you’re going to need to nourish your body. Though we’d love to suggest barbecued meat we know that is certainly not how they roll across the pond. So, uh, how about some entrecote? A little Steak-Frite for lunch and then a crepe for dessert.
Heavy, yes. But worth it too!
And alas, now that you’re dressed the part and have been nourished, feed your culture craving and do a little research. Embrace your inner European and enjoy the artistic work of some of the greats. Monet, Maillol, Vivan just as much as the next guy, our stepping our fashion forward foot toward some more contemporary artists. Patrick Demarchelier, French Vogue, we’re looking at you.
What are some of your favorite French past times? Let us know in the comments!
